Future Learning
One new feature of LUL this year has been two multi-school events aimed at bringing school students from a range of backgrounds together into one place to discuss the future of education.
Three of LUL’s partner schools, James Gillespie’s, Wester Hailes and Lasswade, came together with the Edinburgh Academy to find common ground about what works well in contemporary education and what can be improved.
Top of their list was improving the atmosphere of schools to ensure all students feel included and comfortable. A number of students identified manageable small steps that schools could take to develop further in this direction and some even considered making concrete proposals to their schools.
The voices of young people from different walks of life and different communities can so often be mutually enriching but there are too many barriers that stop them communicating and learning from each other. These gatherings were a small step towards breaking down such barriers and we hope we can make further steps in the future.
