Since Light Up Learning’s inception in 2015 we have worked with hundreds of young people across Edinburgh and the Lothians, igniting a love of learning and transforming lives. We now work in 12 schools across Edinburgh and The Lothians and we are always looking to build new partnerships with other schools in the area.

2022/23 Survey responses from Mentees showed notable improvements in various core skills such as Communication: 81% of Mentees felt their communication skills had improved greatly since engaging with the LUL programme.

A substantial majority (91%) of Mentees affirmed that LUL increased their likelihood of attending school on mentoring days.

A significant percentage (88%) of Mentees expressed a more positive view of education through their involvement with LUL.

Teacher feedback indicated momentous positive changes in Mentees’ attitudes to learning (93%), improved confidence of Mentees (97%), and positive changes in Mentees developing their future aspirations since joining LUL (98%).

In the 2022/23 Academic Year, 36 educational trips were organised for 93 LUL Mentees, enhancing their educational experiences. These outings were extremely valuable to Mentees, enabling them to enjoy learning in diverse settings and take their learning into meaningful contexts in the wider world.

 
 
 

Light Up Learning’s mentoring programme has demonstrated tangible positive outcomes for Mentees, supporting the development of core skills, increased enjoyment of learning, strengthened Mentor relationships, increased school attendance and favourable changes in educational perceptions. The extensive feedback received illustrates the programme’s effective contribution to both Mentees’ educational journeys and their personal development.
